The ASAM Pain and Addiction Common Threads Course

American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)

This course is divided into three sessions, each covering one patient archetype in order to gain a better understanding of medically managed withdrawal (MMW) off of opioids and benzodiazepines, evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorders, problem situations arising from complex medical cases, and the treatment of addiction during pregnancy. Through the use of mini-lectures, participants will learn how to address all the different aspects of a patient’s disease to provide more comprehensive care. The course will culminate with an exploration of the most advanced current pain treatments and what the future holds for the utilization of genetics, neuromodulation and medication-based therapies.
